Claude Max and Team subscriptions now come with monthly API credits for the Claude Platform. Max 5x gets $100 a month, Max 20x gets $200, and Team plans get up to $500 a month pooled across seats. Link a Console organization from your billing settings on claude.ai and the credits arrive every month, usable on any Claude model with no card required.

The briefing

Alongside the Claude Haiku 5.5 launch on October 7, Anthropic added a new perk to Claude Max and Team subscriptions: a monthly API credit for the Claude Platform. It's meant for building your own tools, apps, and agents on the Claude API, and it sits separately from your usage limits in claude.ai and Claude Code. The credits roll out over this week.

What you get

Max 5x gets $100 a month and Max 20x gets $200 a month. Team plans are credited per seat, $20 for each Standard seat and $100 for each Premium seat, pooled into one monthly balance capped at $500. A team with three Standard seats and two Premium seats, for example, gets $260 a month. Discounted Team plans for nonprofits and scientists get the same per-seat amounts. Free, Pro, and Enterprise plans aren't eligible.

New subscribers can claim once they've been on Max or Team for seven days. You can subscribe on the web, iOS, or Android, but the claim itself happens on claude.ai in a web browser.

Credits are granted each billing cycle shortly after your plan payment goes through, and annual plans receive them monthly too. Unused credits don't roll over. If the organization also has purchased credits, the monthly credit is spent first.

Where you can use it

The credits work with every model on the Claude Platform, covering the Messages API, the Message Batches API, the Console Playground, Claude Managed Agents, and the Claude Agent SDK. They don't cover interactive Claude Code in the terminal, IDE, desktop, or web, extra usage in Claude or Claude Code, or Claude on Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry.

When the credits run out, usage continues from any purchased credits or auto-reload on the organization. Otherwise API requests pause until the next month's credits arrive, and nothing is ever charged to your Claude plan.

Claude Haiku 5.5, launched the same day, is a cheap way to spend them. For prompts up to 100K tokens it costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, so high-volume jobs like summaries, classification, and subagents go a long way. Sonnet 5.5 cache reads were also cut in half, from $0.20 to $0.10 per million tokens.

How to claim

  1. Sign in to claude.ai in a browser. Max subscribers open Settings > Billing, and Team Owners or Primary Owners open Organization settings > Billing.
  2. In the API credits section, choose Link organization, pick the Claude Console organization that should receive the credits or create a new one, accept the Supplemental Credit Terms, and confirm the link.
  3. The credits go straight into that organization's balance. Create an API key in the Console and start calling the API. The Console's Billing page lists each credit grant with its amount and expiry date.

You need the Owner, Admin, or Billing role in the Console organization. Each plan can link only one Console organization and you can't change it yourself afterward (support can), so pick the one you actually plan to build in. Signing in to the Console with the same email you use on claude.ai keeps things simple. If linking throws an error, try again in a few hours.
