Perplexity Computer's /reverse-engineer tasks are free through October 31, up to 10,000 credits

Perplexity added the REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) skill to Computer. Through October 31, tasks you start with /reverse-engineer don't use your credits, up to 10,000 credits per user (about $100). Computer needs an active Pro or Max subscription.

The briefing

Perplexity turned morluto's open-source REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) toolkit into a skill inside Computer. Ask Computer to reverse-engineer an app and it works out how the app behaves without the source code, then builds a working version of it. To get people trying it, Perplexity is covering the cost for a limited time.

What you get

  • Through October 31, tasks you start with /reverse-engineer don't use your Computer credits, up to 10,000 credits per user.
  • Computer credits are priced at 100 credits per $1, so 10,000 credits is worth about $100.
  • The free allowance only covers /reverse-engineer tasks. Other Computer tasks use credits as usual.
  • Computer needs an active Perplexity subscription such as Pro or Max, so existing subscribers can start right away.

How to use it

  1. Sign in to Perplexity and select the Computer icon on the home page.
  2. Start a new task with /reverse-engineer and describe the app or feature you want analyzed, such as a design tool, a spreadsheet, or a photo editor.
  3. When Computer finishes, open the version it built and keep asking for changes if something is off.

Only use REA on software you own or are allowed to examine. Perplexity built five demo apps with the skill, including Figma, LibreOffice Calc, and Photopea lookalikes, which you can find in the announcement post. For more on Computer, see What is Computer.
