DeepSeek API web search and fetch are free in Claude Code and Codex until November 1
#DeepSeek#Claude#Codex#API deals#Free
When you run Claude Code, Codex, or DeepSeek Harness on the DeepSeek API, the web search and page fetch calls the model makes are free for now. Billing starts at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1, 2026, at $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests.
The briefing
DeepSeek just added two new API endpoints, Search and Fetch, backed by its own search engine. If you run Claude Code, Codex, or DeepSeek Harness on the DeepSeek API, the model already calls these endpoints on the server side whenever it needs to look something up. Those calls are free right now, and per-request billing only starts at 00:00 Beijing time on November 1, 2026 (16:00 UTC on October 31).
What you get
- Web search and page fetch calls that the model makes inside DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code, or Codex cost nothing until billing starts on November 1 (Beijing time).
- After that, Search and Fetch are each $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests. Failed requests, searches with no results, and timeouts are not charged.
- Only search and fetch are free. Model tokens are still billed from your balance as usual, and calling the Search or Fetch API directly from your own code is billed at the price above.
- Each account can make up to 5 Search and 5 Fetch requests per second.
How to use it
- Sign in to the DeepSeek Platform, create an API key, and make sure your account has a balance.
- Point your agent at DeepSeek with the Claude Code setup guide or the Codex setup guide, using
deepseek-flashordeepseek-v4-proas the model. - Ask questions as usual. When the model needs the web, it searches and fetches pages on its own with no extra setup.
To call the endpoints yourself, see the Search & Fetch guide and Models & Pricing.
