The briefing
GMI Cloud is running a promo with Alibaba that makes Qwen 3.8 Max, Qwen 3.8 Flash and the Wan 3.0 video model free for developers. It started on October 6 as a 12-hour window. On October 7, GMI extended it by 7 more days and raised rate limits on all three models, so it should run until around October 14.
What you can use
Qwen 3.8 Max is Alibaba's flagship model, with a 1M-token context window and up to 131k output tokens, built for long-context work and agentic tasks.
Qwen 3.8 Flash is faster and lighter, aimed at high-volume, latency-sensitive workloads.
Wan 3.0 is Alibaba's video model. It generates up to 30 seconds in a single pass at 480p to 1080p, with audio generated in the same pass.
Usage on all three models is free during the window. The API is OpenAI-compatible, so you can plug it into coding tools and agent frameworks such as OpenCode and Hermes Agent.
Who can use it
You need at least $10 in your GMI Cloud balance. Existing customers who already have $10 or more don't need to do anything. New users can sign up and top up $10. That money is only a check that you're a real account: it isn't spent on the free models and stays in your balance for any model on GMI Cloud afterward. The $10 is a hard minimum, so a balance of $9.99 won't work.
Enterprise credits
Teams planning real production volume on Qwen 3.8 or Wan 3.0 can apply for a separate enterprise credit grant of up to $10,000 per organization, sized to planned usage. The enterprise program runs with Alibaba Cloud through November 5. The form takes about three minutes, GMI replies within 2 business days, and approved credits are allocated within 2 business days of approval.
How to use it
- Sign up or log in to the GMI Cloud console and make sure your balance is at least $10.
- Pick Qwen 3.8 Max, Qwen 3.8 Flash or Wan 3.0 in the Playground, or call them with your GMI API key through the OpenAI-compatible API.
