#ChatGPT#OpenAI#Codex#Free credits

OpenAI's Codex for Open Source program is for active maintainers of public open-source projects. Selected applicants may receive six months of ChatGPT Pro with Codex, conditional Codex Security access, and API credits for coding and project maintenance. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and results are sent by email.

The briefing

If you are a primary or core maintainer of an active open-source project, OpenAI's Codex for Open Source application is worth checking.

What selected maintainers may receive

  • Six months of ChatGPT Pro, including Codex
  • Conditional access to Codex Security
  • API credits for coding, maintenance automation, and release workflows

The application does not publish a fixed credit amount. Treat any community screenshots as unconfirmed and use the official application as the source of truth.

Who should apply

OpenAI asks for an active public repository, evidence of usage or ecosystem importance, and a Primary / Core maintainer role. Your profile and repositories should be public. You may also nominate another maintainer.

How to apply

  1. Open the Codex for Open Source form.
  2. Provide the ChatGPT account email, public GitHub username, and public repository URL.
  3. Explain the repository's activity and importance with concrete evidence such as stars or monthly downloads.
  4. Choose optional interests such as Codex Security or project API credits, add the OpenAI Organization ID, and submit.

OpenAI describes this as rolling review by application order, with results sent by email. There is no published fixed deadline, but capacity and review timing may change. See the related community discussion for context; the official form controls eligibility.
