The briefing

Vercel AI Gateway added MiniMax M3.1 Flash with model id minimax/minimax-m3.1-flash. Input and output are billed at $0 through October 22.

What you can use

MiniMax M3.1 Flash is MiniMax's M-series model for agent reasoning, tool use, coding, and long-context work. It has a 1M-token context window and up to 524K output tokens. It accepts text and images, and supports tool calling and structured outputs. Reasoning is on by default, with effort levels of low, medium, high, xhigh, and max.

The free rate applies only when MiniMax serves the request. Sort the provider with order in the gateway provider options so MiniMax stays first. After the offer ends, pinned MiniMax requests bill at MiniMax's standard rate.

The same model is also free on OpenRouter, where it can take video as well; see MiniMax M3.1 Flash free on OpenRouter. If you prefer MiniMax's own subscription and Code client, there is also M Plan half off with unlimited M3.1 Flash.

How to use it

  1. Sign in to Vercel and create an AI Gateway API key for your team.
  2. Call it through the AI SDK or the OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions and Responses APIs, with model minimax/minimax-m3.1-flash.
  3. To use it in Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, install the latest Vercel CLI, run npx vercel ai-gateway setup, then pick this model in your agent.
  4. To try it in the browser first, open the model page Playground.
