Zed is a code editor built for real-time collaboration. Verified university students can now get Zed Pro free for one full year, a plan that normally costs $10 a month.
What you get

- $10 in AI token credits every month, twice the $5 included in regular Pro
- Unlimited edit predictions
- Real-time multiplayer collaboration, shared terminals, and voice chat
The Student plan does not include Claude Fable, Claude Opus, or GPT Pro models. After 12 months it automatically downgrades to the Free plan, and you can upgrade to Pro anytime.
Who can apply
Students aged 18 or older who are currently enrolled at an accredited university anywhere in the world. As long as you are a student on the day you apply, the plan stays active for the full year even if you graduate. If your school's email domain is not recognized yet, you can add it yourself.
How to claim it
- Sign in to Zed with a GitHub account that is at least 30 days old.
- Apply on the Zed for Students page and verify with your university email.
