OpenAI API gives you up to 1M free GPT-6 tokens a day when you turn on data sharing
Turn on input and output data sharing for your OpenAI API organization and eligible orgs get free tokens every day: up to 1 million on flagship models like gpt-6.1-sol and gpt-5.6-sol, and up to 10 million on lighter models like gpt-5.6-terra and gpt-5.4-mini, refreshed daily.

The briefing
The OpenAI API has a long-running perk: if an organization owner turns on input and output sharing in data controls, letting OpenAI use that traffic to improve its models, eligible organizations get free tokens every day. If you just linked the API credits that now come with ChatGPT Pro or Business, this is worth switching on too.
What you get
The free allowance comes in two groups. Each group has its own daily limit, shared by every model in that group.
The first group covers flagship models such as gpt-6.1-sol, gpt-6-astra, gpt-6-sol, gpt-6-luna, gpt-5.6-sol, gpt-5.5, gpt-5.4, gpt-5.1-codex, gpt-5-codex, gpt-4.1, gpt-4o and o3. Launch and Grow organizations get up to 1 million free tokens a day, and Build organizations get 250,000.
The second group covers lighter models such as gpt-5.6-terra, gpt-5.6-luna, gpt-5.4-mini, gpt-5.4-nano, gpt-5.1-codex-mini, gpt-5-mini, gpt-4.1-mini, gpt-4o-mini, o4-mini and codex-mini-latest. Launch and Grow get up to 10 million free tokens a day, and Build gets 2.5 million.
The allowance resets daily at 00:00 UTC. If a single request would push your daily total past the limit, that whole request is billed at normal rates, and so is any usage after that. Fine-tuned models, fine-tuning training, evals and tool use are not covered.
Who can get it
Not every organization qualifies. Open the data sharing settings page: if you see the offer for free daily usage on shared traffic, your organization is eligible, and once sharing is on the page shows that you are enrolled for complimentary daily tokens. Only organization owners can change the setting. Accounts with Zero Data Retention and Enterprise organizations cannot take part.
You need a positive account balance to call the models, but the free tokens are not charged against it.
How to turn it on
- Sign in to the API Platform as an organization owner and open data sharing settings.
- Set Share inputs and outputs with OpenAI to enabled for all projects, or only for selected projects. If you pick selected projects, only traffic in those projects counts toward the free allowance.
- Call the models listed above as usual and the free tokens apply automatically. On the Usage page, group by service tier to see the data sharing incentive tier usage.
Once sharing is on, inputs and outputs in those projects may be used by OpenAI to evaluate and train models, so keep sensitive data and confidential code in projects without sharing. You can turn it off on the same page at any time, and OpenAI will give 30 days notice before ending the program.
