The briefing

WordPress.com used to reserve full ChatGPT and Claude site access for paid plans. Through the end of November, free sites get the same MCP (Model Context Protocol) connection: install the plugin or connector once, then manage posts, comments, traffic, and multi-site chores in a chat.

What you get

  • Through November, free WordPress.com sites can enable full AI MCP access. Paid plans keep it year-round.
  • Official WordPress ChatGPT plugin and Claude connector both use MCP, so you manage the site in natural language after one connection.
  • Ask the AI for a to-do list, post ideas, draft saves, comment cleanup, or a cross-site priority check. You still choose what it may change and whether it must ask first.
  • Self-hosted WordPress sites connected through Jetpack can also use MCP per the official guide.

Who can use it

  • Any WordPress.com account, free or paid, during the November window.
  • You also need a ChatGPT or Claude account (or another MCP-capable agent).
  • MCP actions still follow your site role permissions (admin, editor, author, and so on).

How to connect

  1. Read the official post Connect ChatGPT or Claude to Your WordPress.com Sites, Free Through November or the guide Enable MCP tool access for AI agents.
  2. In WordPress.com Preferences → AI and MCP (or open MCP preferences directly), turn on Enable MCP access and adjust per-site tools if you want.
  3. For ChatGPT, open the WordPress ChatGPT plugin (short link wp.me/chatgpt) and approve access.
  4. For Claude, open the WordPress Claude connector (short link wp.me/claude) and approve access.
  5. Start with a read-only ask such as “look at my site and list three things worth fixing this week,” then allow writes once you are comfortable.

The promotional window runs through the end of November. After that, follow WordPress.com’s then-current docs for free sites. Paid plans keep AI MCP access year-round.
