The briefing
OpenCode Zen just added an anonymous reasoning model called Pulse Alpha Free (model id pulse-alpha-free), and it is free for a limited time.
What you can use
Anyone with an OpenCode Zen account can pick it. Input, output and cached reads are all billed at $0. It has about one million tokens of context and up to roughly 131k output tokens, takes text and image input, supports tool calls, and lets you set reasoning effort to low, high or max.
It is a stealth preview model, so data you send during the free period may be retained and used to improve the model. Keep sensitive code out of it. It is not available in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Ukraine or Venezuela. No end date for the free period has been announced yet.
How to use it
- Open OpenCode, sign in to Zen, then pick Pulse Alpha Free with
/models, or setopencode/pulse-alpha-freein your config. - For direct API calls, this model uses the OpenAI-compatible endpoint
https://opencode.ai/inference/openai/v1/chat/completions.
